Staying active is crucial for the Blind and Visually Impaired (BVI) community for several reasons. Firstly, physical activity helps maintain overall health and fitness levels, reducing the risk of obesity, cardiovascular diseases, and other chronic conditions. It also improves mobility, balance, and coordination, which makes you more independent to do daily tasks. By staying active, blind people can improve their overall quality of life and improve their potential for personal growth and development.

When people are working out they need to have a positive mindset because that will help you to stay active. Engaging in regular exercise will boost your mental well-being by reducing nervousness, stress, anxiety, and depression. I also think it can help you manage your anger and other emotions. Research shows the positive effects of physical activity and the need to stay active. According to the National Library of Medicine, “There is an increasing amount of evidence documenting the beneficial impacts of physical activity on mental health…” . (ncbi) It promotes a positive self-image and gives a person a feeling of accomplishment and empowerment.

I believe people should participate in as many groups and sports activities as they can because studies show that visual impairment negatively impacts participation and productivity and can also contribute to separation and isolation. These significant issues affect both the physical and psychological health, emphasizing the need for greater attention to this issue. Participation can build up your body, build relationships, develop communication skills, and combat feelings of isolation. And you also get to have fun!!! My favorite thing to do is go walking around the malls. I really enjoy smelling and eating different types of food and listening to music. When I’m having fun I don’t even realize that I’ve walked thousands of steps. Exercise doesn’t have to be boring, just make sure you’re doing something you like. Marri once said, “Travel Visions Aloha For The Blind (TVAB) aims to create a world where individuals with visual impairments are not hindered but…can transform lives,…and break down barriers.” As always, Ms. Marri and Travel Visions Aloha want people to know that we are capable of living full and happy lives, so keep reading my blog to find out about more adventures!—Kelly & Mrs. Evon
